Located on the foothills of the East Central Himalayas, Dooars is among the few places where nature lavishly flourishes. Rich in wildlife, the mauve green hill standing on the fertile plains, the mangrove trees, and the birds happily singing in twilight leave its visitor spellbound. The region shelters exotic flora and fauna. The resorts and lodges here are located within the forests to allow you to take a close glimpse of nature. This region is the only plain in India rich in nitrate.  The name Dooars translates to Dwar or door and is the gateway to Bhutan.

Dooars offers its visitors plenty of destinations. The wildlife here preserves the endangered one-horned rhinoceros and many exotic flora and fauna.

The region is populated by many ethnic communities like Raj Bangshi, Mech, Rava, Toto Limboo, Lepcha, and Bengali. This intermingling of people from different region provides a diverse flavor of culture in Dooars. Despite the difference in ethnicity, people here have been living in harmony for ages.

Let the flavorful food speak of the people’s culture. Some must-try local delicacies in Dooars are dry fish pickles, bamboo shoots and momos. The roadside stalls here serve Puri Bhaji, fish pakoras. Travel to Dooars and try these authentic dishes to burst with flavors.

By Train : New Jalpaiguri Railways Station, connected to all major cities is the main railway station to reach  Dooars. Tourists can also board a train from Malbazar.

By Bus : If you want to reach Dooars take a bus from Tenzing Norgay Central Bus Terminal in Siliguri.

By Flight : You can reach Dooars via flight from Bagdogra Airport which is one of the main gateways.

Chapramari
Chapramari

Located close to the Gorumara National Park, Chapramari Wildlife Reserve in North Bengal covers a distance of about 30 km from Lataguri. The place is home to parakeets, kingfishers, and green pigeons.This small forest is the oldest one in Dooars. The diverse variety of flora and fauna thrive in the forest due to which it was considered a reserve. The visitors can take a safari ride in the forest. The reserve derived its name from a fish called Chopra, found here abundantly.

Jaldapara National Park
Jaldapara National Park

Jaldapara National Park, located at 61 m altitude on the banks of the Torsa River, is spread across vast grassland with riverine forests. Tourists come to visit this place for the sighting of the Indian one-horned rhinoceros. Besides Kaziranga National Park in Assam, the park holds the largest rhino population in India. Other animals that dwell in the park are leopards, elephants, barking deer, hog deer, wild boar, and more.

Buxa Tiger Reserve was once a dolomite mine. It was declared a National Park in 1983. The reserve is well known for its second-highest Tiger Population. This picturesque reserve presents a beautiful landscape with Terai and hilly slopes crossed by numerous rivers and tributaries. The reserve is enclosed with more than eight types of forests.

The wildlife in this forest is a major attraction. The visitors can ride on the safari jeep and enter deep inside the forest to explore the natural vegetation and wildlife.
